An agate is an especially beautiful variety of the mineral quartz, which forms colorful, stripe-shaped deposits due to rhythmic crystallization.
Although agates can occur in all possible colors, they are usually pale or pastel-colored. Very bright colors can be achieved through artificial dyeing, which has been known since antiquity.
