With a few accessories and the right app, you can turn Apple products into really cool tools. The US company Oscium has now developed a product that can turn your iPhone, iPad or iPod into a digital oscilloscope.
If you like, you can use the necessary software from the Apple Store beforehand and test it in demo mode. If you then also unpack the hardware, you will receive the following components:

• iMSO-104 oscilloscope hardware (mixed-signal scope)


• 1x/10x analog probe (test probe)


• Test terminals (4 digital + 1 earth)


• SMD grabber (4 digital + 1 earth)


• Screwdriver for setting the analog waveform compensation


• Covers for the analog measuring tips (2 pieces)

Once you have connected everything using the standard 30-pin connector, you are ready to go. Operation is very intuitive via the touchscreen of your Apple device. The software includes buttons for the analog and the four digital inputs, but other commands such as switching between alternating and direct current or documenting the measured values can also be carried out intuitively. If you move the marker on the right-hand side with your finger, you can adjust the trigger threshold, for example.
The device, whose hardware is based on a PSoC 3 chip from Cypress, offers a bandwidth of 5 MHz and a sampling frequency of 12 megasamples/s. The measured values from the four digital inputs and the analog input can also be displayed simultaneously. Thanks to the perfect interaction with the proven Apple mechanics, the iMSO-104 benefits from an outstanding resolution, is extremely mobile due to its compactness and is also suitable for beginners due to its incredible user-friendliness.
This makes it a great tool for hobbyists and electronics engineers and those who want to become one.
