Although there were video games before Pong, this simple game is still considered the forefather of video games due to its success.
Anyone who owned a console back then was usually the hero of the entire neighborhood - and those who moved the paddles in Pong correctly and often won could be sure of the recognition of other players.
Although there were no official Pong tournaments back then, unofficially everyone fought for the title of Pong champion ;)
